It's always such a pleasure to read your reviews, Bryan.
Fascinating how the writer's able to convey the difference between how the narrator speaks in different contexts. Sounds like language isthe focus here. Lovely.

Now I know why I felt like the third person walking with the father and son.
You say " unseen observer in a dangerous world adds suspense."
The suspense made me want to read again the next day. I'm part of the story. I feel the bond they have over the bottle of coke. I feel hunger pains as they do. This is what makes this book a living piece of art in writing, a real classic and very rare to find. I wish other books were like this one.
thank you for explaining the inner works of this great book.

Sorry you feel that way, but if you look again, you will find that the Mary Shelly, 1831 version of Frankenstein begins with a PREFACE written by "Marlowe". There follows a series of letters as a PROLOGUE to the story written by "Walton" to various people outlining confusing events that lead up to the telling of the Frankenstein story that begins with CHAPTER ONE.

Possibly you should try reading the fifth child, as well. Its written in the same format but tells the story more of his mother than him and tells of her life and feelings concerning Ben. It is a great book.

I began reading 'Gone With The Wind' for a school assignment and by the first 2 pages, I was hooked! It is an amazing piece of classic literature! Until now I had thought that the 'Twilight Series' were the best books that I had ever read, but boy was I wrong! Sigh.....they don't make them like that anymore.
